Born in the New Territories, Hong Kong, Yu's first job would come about when he was 15, working as a dishwasher at a pizza parlour in Canada while attending high school. He got laid off in a couple weeks for dropping too many dishes, he wasn't the best dishwasher out there. His next job would be as a waiter at a Chinese restaurant, the tips were decent, the cooks had humour, and he would learn that everyone had a story to share. Yu began writing poetry on bus rides (the poetry was terrible!), and would develop a keen interest in the arts.

A year later Yu moved back to Hong Kong and completed high school, thereafter he worked at a local advertising agency for a year while studying a communications diploma before pursuing a higher education abroad. He picked up photography as an interest along the way in 2004, and in 2006, went on to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Integrated design and minoring in management at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. During this period of time, Yu further developed his craft and passion for photography, film, dance, and music.

Upon returning to Hong Kong after the summer of 2010, Yu began working for a Swedish street fashion label in the city, working his way up from marketing manager to brand manager. In between, he would also freelance photography, dance and performance gigs. By the end of 2012, he resigned from the retail sector after 2 years and committed himself as a photographer and artist.

Yu moved back to Montreal in 2017 and began to shift his focus towards music and writing, he also spent the majority of his time alone, reading and researching. In 2019, Yu would move back home and is currently stationed in Hong Kong.
